Co-op City first building opened in 1969 and was completed in 1971. It has 15,372 apartments, in thirty-five high rise buildings and seven clusters of townhouses, making it the largest single residential development in the United States. Co-op City also has eight parking structures, three shopping centers, an educational park, and a firehouse. The apartment buildings, referred to by number are also grouped into 5 sections. They range from 24-33 floors. Co-op City is on the site of Freedomland, a former amusement park which at the time was the largest in the country. Prior to Freedomland their was a small airport at the site. When traveling into the city southbound from I-95, it is one of the first sights of NYC and the first example of New York's urban immensity. This documentory is about three old friends recapturing their youth by taking you on a tour of Co-op city The tour focuses on the unique environment of being a teenager and comming of age at this huge complex when it was being built. Vintage 1970s photography and 8mm film are used in this project. Time 35 minutes..
