Fascism was a progressive movement emphasizing unity, pragmatism, youth, unreason, change, direct action, experimentation, and the future. Unlike classical socialism, fascists did not have a theoretical playbook, but a hurry-up offense.
The left calls the right fascist for opposing fascist regimes, standing for strict limitations on state power, and working for individual freedom. The irony is that they ignore their own history from the Wilson Adminstration, to the Mussolini worship of the 1920s (progressive Chicago even has a street named after Mussolini's heir apparent Italo Balbo), to the leftwing eugenics movement. Planned Parenthood, for example, was founded by Margaret Sanger, a white supremacist who gave speeches to the KKK and did not want the inferior races to breed. This is a great book, and I recommend it to everyone.
